Roger Jones Timber Merchants, Rhyl
I recently found a photo of ‘Roger Jones Timber Merchant’ in Rhyl from the 80s. I remember it so well as i would have been 11, the Falklands war was just kicking off and my dad had just been laid off as a joiner at Lowther College which is known as Bodelwyddan Castle. Luckily my Dad who was an amazing joiner and rock hard grafter got a job in ‘Rogers’ cutting the big timber-board sheets up.
Because i was only young and the old memories are fading i only remember a few of the people who worked there..i think there was a guy called ‘Alan’ that always wore a woolly hat and used to shout ‘Hi’ at us when i walked past, a guy called Steve who i think was an ex-copper and another guy who i think was called ‘Colin Parry’…i remember the surname was definitely Parry and of course the star himself ‘Terry’ who always reminded me off Noel Edmonds and was a good friend of my dads as they always went golfing together.
Always remember getting locked out of the work van which was an old ford pickup and me going in to see Terry and telling him what had happened and that my Dad was going to kill me…he laughed, got the plastic strip off a pallet that held the bricks together and slipped it into the van and lifted the lock up….saved my bacon there 🙂
